Program

Session 1:
Musculoskeletal
Explore forefoot and mid-foot structures linked with Neuroma complex, Plantar Plate pathology, and Lisfranc trauma. Discuss common joint arthritides affecting ankle joint and the first metatarsophalangeal joint.

Session 2:
Neurology
Review innervation of the leg and foot dermatomes, cutaneous distributions and musculoskeletal anatomy, particularly those relevant to common procedures such as tibial and digital block injections. Practice use of ultrasound and plinth/bed.

Session 3:
Cardiovascular
Revise and consolidate understanding of vascular anatomy considerations in chronic conditions, particularly in diabetes pathology.

The Presenters:


Chris Glen
BSc (Zoology), BSc Hons (Anatomy)

Faculty of Medicine, The University of Queensland

Chris Glen has a broad background in comparative and human anatomy, particularly with a focus on functional musculoskeletal anatomy.

His 20 years of university teaching experience includes teaching vertebrate anatomy in zoology and veterinary courses, with a greater involvement as course coordinator and lecturer of human anatomy courses in first, second and third year courses in biomedical, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, nursing and human movement programs.

Chris's research includes publications on locomotor function in birds, non-avian dinosaurs, camels and alpacas and also on craniofacial superimposition in forensics and muscles in human the foot.


Emilia Bran
Podiatrist, Endorsed Podiatrist

Emilia graduated from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in 2002 with a Bachelor of Health Science (Podiatry). She has also completed a Graduate Certificate in Podiatry therapeutics and a Masters in Theories of Podiatric Surgery. Emilia has spent most of her career working in the private sector. She has extensive experience in diabetic foot care, wound management and offloading after 10 years of work at the Redlands Hospital as a Senior Podiatrist. Currently Emilia is in her final stage of training under the Australasian College of Podiatric Surgeons.

On most days, Emilia is working in her practice ‘Precision Plus Podiatry’. In addition to this, she also works at QUT as a Lecturer.
