In last month’s article, we explored the role of ChatGPT in helping you behind the scenes as a podiatrist (as well as which pitfalls to be wary of). In part two of our monthly series, we dive into the world of social media and ChatGPT to see how the two platforms can connect and perhaps even lighten your social media load.
Firstly, let’s recap. What is ChatGPT? It’s an artificial intelligence online platform that enables you to ask it about a range of topics you want to know more about or tasks you need help with. Much like a human, it replies in writing with a detailed conversational response ready for you to use as you wish (or to ask further questions for clarity). Need a blog post written? Need a summary of a complex topic? Need some proofreading done? ChatGPT can help you with all this and more. There are pitfalls to this emerging technology, which were covered in last month’s article.
This month we’re looking at the role of ChatGPT and social media. Do you hate the idea of doing social media posts for work? Or perhaps you live online and love the professional interaction it brings?
Whichever camp you land in, ChatGPT may help you to get more out of your social media experiences as a podiatrist.
Here are five steps to consider.
Let’s start with your online network. Which social media accounts do you want to follow? There are so many wonderful podiatrists to follow, so a useful starting point can be to enter in relevant hashtags and search terms like #podiatry #podiatristsaustralia #podiatrist #australianpodiatry #foothealth to find your online tribe.
Next, see who they are following, and so on and so forth to grow your online network. To help further with this, you may wish to search terms to search on Twitter, Facebook, Tik Tok, LinkedIn, Instagram and so forth such as: ‘podiatry’ and ‘foot health’ or even areas that interest you such as ‘diabetic foot’ or ‘peripheral arterial disease’. You can even add in location-specific filters like ‘Australia’ or your city or even local suburb names to further narrow your search.
Before we bring ChatGPT into this picture, ask yourself who you want to reach on social media?
Is your goal to attract new patients or is it to network with peers, since this will influence which social media platforms you choose to focus your energies on.
If it’s the former, then focus on your patients at the heart of any social media activity and perhaps consider platforms like Facebook or Instagram. What types of questions do your patients seem to ask you the most? Or what are some common ailments you see more often than not? Build out social media themes around these common areas of interest (remember to also link to content like articles or videos too).
However, if you’re primarily on a specific social media platform of choice to network with peers, then go in with a curious and collaborative mindset. Maybe LinkedIn or Twitter is more your vibe for these interactions, though Facebook has some great professional groups too such as APodA’s member-only groups such as Podiatrists in Business.
Make sure your posts are of course always professional and constructive, given they may be shared widely. Collaboration, respect and honesty are key when networking on social media since people are likely to respond to authentic posts; as long as patient confidentiality of course isn’t compromised.
Once you have decided on your ideal social media audience, and you have started to follow some key influencers (or simply some interesting people in your chosen space, they don’t need to be influencers!) then it’s time to bring ChatGPT into the mix.
Based on your ideas in step two, ask ChatGPT to write a series of social media posts on your chosen topics, but be super detailed with your prompts.
For example, look at the difference in these results given verbatim by ChatGPT.
Here is the result from ChatGPT when little direction is provided in the question.
